I was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Jamaican. Canadian. Dutiful. Devoted. I didnât question muchâbecause I didnât know I could.
But then I studied philosophy.
And law.
And equity.
And I moved away from home.
And I met people who werenât like meâpeople who believed differently, lived differently, loved differently.
And suddenly, I had to confront things Iâd once taken for granted.
What started as curiosity became a calling to reevaluate everything:
Not just what the church taught me about drums or sexâbut what it taught me about race, power, purity, and God.
I realized that what I had inherited was not just religion.
It was colonization.
It was control.
It was shame.
And so, I began again.
At 37, Iâm deeply disappointed in my personal life, and how so much of what I was taught didn’t help me. In fact, they harmed me.
And these realitiesâalong with illness, disappointment, and awakeningâhave shaped a more honest, raw, and sometimes painful faith.
To me, deconstruction isnât a rebellion.
Itâs a return.
A stripping back of what no longer serves, so something truer can be built.
Thatâs what Sanctuw(e)ary is.
Not a destination.
Not a doctrine.
But a soft place to land. A place to start again.
đż Sanctuw(e)ary: A Soft Space to Unravel and Rebuild
A Soft Place for the Spiritually Wary and Weary
A guided journal + gentle peer support group for people unraveling their faith.
Now accepting pre-orders for the beta release of Sanctuw(e)ary
This is a special pre-sale for early supporters.
Youâll receive the journal by August 2025, and the group begins September 2025.
đ What is Sanctuw(e)ary?
Sanctuw(e)ary is a soft place to land when the faith you inherited no longer fits.
Whether youâre questioning what you were taught, grieving the loss of spiritual certainty, or longing for a faith that feels more like homeâyou are not alone.
This journal and optional peer group were created to support people raised in high-control Christian environments (like I was), who are:
- Spiritually burned out
- Questioning but not bitter
- Wary of church, but still seeking God
- Holding grief, shame, anger, and wonderâall at once
This isnât a theology class.
Itâs not a debate.
Itâs a gentle space to reflect, rebuild, and rest.
Itâs an invitation to reflect deeply, gently, and honestly.
A guided journal + community circle
For those deconstructing high-control religionâand themselves. For those who know what itâs like to feel both in and out of the church at once.
A gentle, guided space for the curious, the cautious, and the questioning Christian.
Are you rethinking the faith you were raised in? Wondering what you truly believe, or what you want to hold on to?
Do you still believe in Godâbut not quite the way you used to?
You’re not alone.
And this journey doesnât have to be walked in silence.
Welcome to a sacred, tender space for deconstructing faith, without destroying yourself.
You are asking hard, holy questionsâand that is sacred work.
Maybe you’re exhausted by purity culture. Maybe you’re unsure where faith ends and fear begins.
Maybe youâre trying to find language for grief, anger, or liberation that doesnât come wrapped in guilt.
Maybe you just want to feel free.
This is your invitation to pause, reflect, and begin again.
With tenderness. With truth. Without shame.
You are not broken. You are not alone.

đŹ FAQs
What is deconstruction?
Deconstruction is the process of critically examining and re-examining the beliefs, doctrines, and religious practices you were taught â to determine what still serves your spiritual growth, what no longer aligns with your values, and what needs to be reimagined or released. Itâs not about abandoning faith.
It involves evaluating the beliefs you were raised with, and deciding what to keep, change, or release. Itâs not about walking away from faith. Itâs about being honest with your questions and allowing yourself to grow spiritually and intellectually.
Itâs about making your faith your own.
Why deconstruct?
Because inherited faith isnât always liberating.
Because certainty can crush curiosity.
Because many of us were taught to believe without room for grief, nuance, or questioning.
Many of us were handed a version of faith that was deeply meaningful and deeply harmful. Deconstruction lets you name your doubts, grieve losses, and move toward a faith (or philosophy) that aligns with your values, lived experience, and sense of justice.
Deconstruction helps you:
- Move from fear-based to freedom-based belief
- Let go of toxic theology
- Rebuild a spiritual life that feels honest, healthy, and hopeful
What will I get out of this journey?
By the end of this journaling + peer circle experience, youâll walk away with:
- A downloadable, printable journal with 40+ writing prompts
- Greater clarity on what you do believe â and why
- Language for what youâre experiencing
- A sense of spiritual companionship and affirmation
- Creative tools to express your evolving faith
- A personalized record of your deconstruction journey â to return to again and again
- A space to name questions youâve been afraid to ask
- Community with others who get it â no shame, no pressure
- Clarity around what you do believe
- Permission to hold nuance
- Practices for grounding yourself in uncertainty
- A blueprint for gentle spiritual rebuilding â if you want to reconstruct
Is this religious?
Itâs not dogmatic. This work is grounded in care, curiosity, and choice. Itâs safe for the spiritually weary and the spiritually seeking.
Can I join if Iâm not Christian anymore?
Yes. Youâre welcome if youâre unsure, agnostic, still in church, or long gone. What matters is that youâre unpacking, unlearning, or searching.
Will I have to talk in the live calls?
Nope. You can listen in and engage at your own pace. Youâre never expected to overshare.
Will this be offered again?
The journal and circle will likely be sold separately laterâbut this beta bundle (and this price) wonât return.
